Policy text
Moderation on Map.ca is layered, not binary. The Content Moderation Policy defines the action ladder — warning, hide, limit, remove, escalate — the categories that skip warnings (child endangerment, threats, doxxing, fraud), the human-reviewer requirement for irreversible actions, and the documentation each action carries so the appeals path can work.
It applies to Map.ca moderators, the AI moderation tooling, anyone reporting content, and Pin owners whose content is moderated.
Principles this policy enforces
- AI assists, people remain responsible
- Civic reporting must be useful without becoming a public shaming system
- Public data and personal data are not the same thing
- Community benefit must survive scale
What it requires
- Follow the documented action ladder.
- Document the reason for every action.
What it forbids
- Do not take irreversible action without human review.
- Do not moderate without leaving an appealable record.
