Map.ca is funded by a mix of Pin subscriptions (Pin owners who claim and operate a paid listing), foundation grants for civic-infrastructure work, and direct community contributions. We publish the breakdown by source in the annual statement.
The annual statement covers: revenue by source, expenses by category (engineering, moderation, infrastructure, governance), assets and liabilities, and a forward-looking note on financial posture for the coming year.
We operate with a multi-quarter operating reserve. If revenue dropped to zero, we would have enough runway to keep Map.ca's core surface (the map, existing Pin pages, the sitemap) operational for at least four quarters while we worked out next steps with the community.
